Student Programs

Supporting students

The Alumni Engagement team sponsors a variety of events and programs to support student success. In addition to the projects below, we also support students through campus events like Cornucopia, Grad Fair, Commencement, and the Almost Alumni Social.

Slug Summer Send-Off Series

Each year, the Alumni Engagement team invites incoming students and their families to connect with us the summer before they begin at UCSC! These optional events are an opportunity for students to connect with fellow incoming classmates, local alumni, and other families in their area. Join us for refreshments, conversation, and a Q&A with UCSC staff from Student Affairs, Admissions, and University Relations.

Stay tuned for details about 2024 Slug Summer Send-Offs!

Almost Alumni Social 2023

Almost Alumni Social

The Almost Alumni Social is an annual event celebrating our newest graduates and welcoming them to the Slug Alumni Network! This tradition, hosted by the Alumni Engagement team the week before Slug Crossing, includes free food, lawn games, music, a photo booth, giveaways, and more.

Special Project Fund

The UC Santa Cruz Special Project Fund is organized by the Alumni Council. It is awarded to students and student organizations who are focused on creating events, projects, and/or activities to support career success initiatives that connect students directly to alumni.

Students can apply for funding from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024 through a Google Form accessible here: UC Santa Cruz Alumni Association Special Project Request Form – FY23-24.

Previous approved projects have included:

  • GraceHacks Hackathon
    • A one-day, 24-hour hackathon at UCSC aiming to create a safe space for beginner hackers of underrepresented genders in technology. GraceHacks seeks UCSC Alumni to be judges, mentors, workshop leaders, or speakers.
  • 2023 Coastal Science & Policy Alumni events
    • These events brought together alumni and current students from every class to kickoff the CSP Alumni Association. As a two-year masters program that got its start in the pandemic, many CSP alumni had not met in-person before. Alumni were also able to reconnect with faculty and partners of the program.
