Seeking applications for Alumni Councilors

The UC Santa Cruz Alumni Association is seeking applications for new Alumni Councilors to serve on the Alumni Association board.

The Alumni Council is a diverse group of alumni leaders who are deeply committed to UC Santa Cruz and to strengthening lifelong connections between alumni, students, and the campus community. Councilors partner with UCSC staff and campus leadership to shape alumni engagement, support student success, award scholarships, and help guide the Alumni Association’s priorities and programs.

Application deadline: Friday, February 27, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (PT)

Applicants selected to move forward will be contacted in mid-March to participate in an interview. Final appointments are reviewed and approved by the Council in spring.

About the Council

The Alumni Council serves as the governing board of the UC Santa Cruz Alumni Association. Councilors work together to:

  • Foster a strong and inclusive alumni network
  • Support scholarships and student success initiatives
  • Advise campus leadership on alumni perspectives and priorities
  • Create opportunities for alumni engagement, connection, and service
  • Represent the voices of alumni across generations, regions, and lived experiences

Council service offers a unique opportunity to build relationships with fellow alumni leaders while making a tangible impact on UCSC.

Time commitment & expectations

Councilors can expect to commit approximately 3–5 hours per month on average.

Key expectations include:

  • Attend three Council meetings and one annual retreat each year
    (August, October, and May meetings are typically in person in Santa Cruz; February meetings are typically virtual)
  • Serve on at least one Council committee
  • Participate as an ambassador for UCSC, helping strengthen alumni connections and engagement

Who should apply?

Alumni Council service is best suited for those who are able to make a consistent, multi-year volunteer commitment. We encourage applications from alumni who:

  • Feel connected to UC Santa Cruz and its mission
  • Are interested in contributing their time, skills, and lived experience
  • Value collaboration, service, and community-building
  • Bring diverse professional backgrounds, identities, perspectives, and geographic representation

No prior board experience is required. What matters most is a commitment to UCSC and a desire to engage thoughtfully in service to the alumni community.
