UC Santa Cruz Alumni Big Creek Excursion

Join us for an exclusive two-day camping excursion to the Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve, part of the largest and most pristine coastal wildlands in central and southern California. With students, faculty, and alumni experts from UC Santa Cruz, we will explore this very special area of the Big Sur Coast not accessible by the general public and observe research.

Friday, May 15

- 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Arrive at Big Creek

- Camp set-up and orientation, then lunch

- Interpretive Trail hike led by Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve Director Mark Readdie 

 - Wine and cheese down at the beach before dinner

-Evening talk by UC Santa Cruz Natural Reserves director Gage Dayton 

Saturday, May 16

- Join biology class as students work on rapid research projects

- Post-lunch hike on ridge above Whale Point 

 - Dinner with students and faculty team

- Evening research presentation by students

- Dessert and wine while watching the sunset from Whale Point

Sunday, May 17

-Post-breakfast hike led by Reserve Steward Sean McStay

- Lunch with the group before departure
