UCSC offers many opportunities for alumni to stay connected to the campus. Volunteering is a great way to give back and make a lasting impact.
Network with Banana Slugs in your area
In locations around the country, UCSC alumni and friends get together to enjoy each other's company, network, listen to faculty speakers, go to theater performances, wine tastings, parties, and educational outings, and many other activities. You can volunteer to help plan events in your area, or just join the fun!
Mentor a student
Share career insights and plug in to what students are doing. Assist students and other alumni by volunteering to provide career counseling and professional advice by telephone or as part of career fairs and conferences.
Participate in Admissions outreach
Talk to prospective students, attend college fairs, and inspire the next generation of alumni. Share your experience at high school and community colleges, and at Admissions events in the Spring before students make their final decision.
Become a reunion volunteer
Alumni Weekend and reunion celebrations are more lively, fun and inspiring if classmates come back to celebrate with you. No matter the amount of time you are able to to commit, we have an opportunity for you. Build on yesterday's vision, and stroll down memory lane. Reunion volunteers are key to making sure we have a successful Alumni Weekend and reunion program.
Get involved in legislative advocacy
Lead fellow UCSC alumni in letter-writing and email campaigns, join a delegation of alumni to meet with legislators, and share your passion for our collective mission: teaching, research, and public service. Sign up for our online advocacy program and find out more about UCSC's government and community relations.
For more information contact Melissa Whatley at (831) 459-3470 or email@example.com.
Attend the Multicultural Career Conference
Participate as an alum at the Multicultural Career Conference, bringing together people of diverse backgrounds to discuss careers, internships, and grad schools. Come back to UCSC for a day to mentor students, reconnect with the campus, and network with fellow Banana Slugs.
Smith Renaissance Society
The Smith Renaissance Society serves the college dreams of independent students who are current or former foster youth, runaways, juvenile offenders, orphans, or homeless youths. This program provides institutional support to independent students, its services extending from academic and emotional advising, to help navigating the University system and to authorizing priority enrollment in courses. It is the first program of its kind in the University of California System and, to date, the only one that provides systematic outreach to current foster youths and others seeking college admission. Alumni are able to participate in the program as a mentor to a student.
Serve on the Alumni Council
Be the voice of UCSC alumni. Advance the interests and promote the welfare of the university by serving on the 30-member Alumni Association Council, of which twenty-four are graduates of UCSC and are elected. Click here to see current council members.
