Enjoy Shakespeare Santa Cruz - at a discount!

UCSC's critically acclaimed, award-winning annual theater festival is committed to bringing Shakespeare's plays alive for today's audiences, making them relevant to emerging American sensibilities, all without changing a single consonant, vowel, or double entendre from Shakespeare's own text.

Macbeth

One of the most exciting, frightening, and beautiful plays ever written, Macbeth confronts us with a universal riddle: how is it that we can distinguish between good and evil - and knowingly choose the latter? The speed and compression of Shakespeare's shortest tragedy and its thrilling poetry make Macbeth one of his most popular plays. The title role is played by Paul Whitworth.

8 p.m., Performing Arts Theater
Cost: $25.00 (regularly $33.00)

She Stoops to Conquer
by Oliver Goldsmith

Young Marlow is in a middle-class mess: obsessed with, but scared of, the opposite sex. When he mistakes future father-in-law's house for an inn and his fiancée for a barmaid, we enter the pure comic territory of an eighteenth-century Fawlty Towers.

8 p.m., in the outdoor Festival Glen
Cost: $25.00 (regularly $33.00)
